With the international success in art business of the film treatises on absence and presence Wisla and WARS , Josef Dabernig drafts a way in between the genres that achieves a balance between their different logic approaches. Though Dabernig’s works are cut, so to speak, in strict charge of the experimental film and its études of form, they also play with gestures, moods, and values of the auteur cinema of the 1960s and 1970s: doing so with a pleasure in narration shifts, as they are known from literature on psychoanalytic film theory. (Georg Schöllhammer).

Deimantas Narkevicius’ first and last film work serve as reference miniatures: as my own works are devoted to the hermetic condition of a cinematic discourse, though they are comparatively more interested in the documentary, the constructions of identity and history are undermined by a subtext alternating between sarcasm and farce. (Josef Dabernig)
